So you are a Teacher who is looking to top up your income out of hours? The good news is that there are many things that you can do which will earn you a decent income out of hours. Whether you teach at different levels of school, university, college or private institution there are students who need your help.
Education is one those industries that is constantly growing and with pressure that students face from competition parents and students will invest in learning outside of hours. Equally in the workforce employees are looking to update skills so that they can keep jobs and get promotions. There are really three ways of looking at the income that you can make outside of hours depending on the risk and the amount of money that you want to earn:
1. Private tutoring - in person, group or online. The less risky option here is to work for a tutoring organisation and probably pick up an hourly rate equivalent from your existing job. Another option is to start your own tutoring business and then find a cheap space which you can conduct your lessons in such as some coffee shops, library, churches, community centres, schools that have unused classes on the weekend, business centres which may offer cheaper rent on the weekends and evening. Also there are some co-working places that are open on weekends that may offer a discount rate for spaces to work. Really depends on how many people that you are tutoring. There is also the option to offer lessons and tutoring online.
2. Create lessons online - platforms such as Udemy allow teachers to create courses which they can upload and sell online. There are courses on Udemy how to make money on Udemy. Think about how you can take your skills and relate these to the most popular topics for example if you teach English can you create a course on Business communications or Writing effectively for Profit.
3. Create content which you can sell online such as study guides and other helpful learning aids. This will require you to make an investment in a basic website with the ability to collect payments for the materials you produce. There will also be a time investment as well to create the content. You may use channel on Youtube to create some teaser content with links to purchase the full content.
It may be that you start with tutoring, then produce courses and content online. It really comes down to have much time and money that you can invest in this Side Hustle. Just make sure that you calculate your hourly rate properly by taking into account travel time and other preparation time so that you can price what you are doing the right way.
